Treating scars is easier than you think. You can minimize the appearance of acne scars and surgical scars in just a few easy laser treatments, without surgery or downtime.

In just a few fast, easy treatment sessions, scars are much less visible, leaving behind smoother, more attractive skin.

A quick summary of the advantages include:

  • Little to no downtime from treatments
  • Simple procedure with minimal discomfort
  • Quick, non-invasive treatment sessions
  • Excellent improvement in scar appearance

Fractional laser scar treatment is the more comfortable alternative to surgery for acne scars and surgical scars, with remarkable results on any skin type, including very light and very dark skin.

What is Laser Scar Removal?

Laser Scar Removal is a non-surgical treatment that uses an FDA-cleared fractional laser for the treatment of scars, ideal for patients seeking to minimize the appearance of surgical scars and acne scars on the face and body. It’s a fast and easy procedure that’s appropriate for any skin type, including very light and very dark skin tones.

How does Laser Scar removal work?

Unlike surgical scar treatment that requires incisions, laser scar removal uses fractional laser light to break down scar tissue and trigger healthy new tissue to form at the site so that the scar is more even in color and texture, and it blends more naturally into surrounding skin.

Pulses of fractional laser light break down scar tissue, triggering new tissue to form in its place. It’s a fast and simple procedure with little to no downtime and minimal discomfort.

What is a Laser Scar removal treatment like?

This non-invasive procedure can take as little as 20 minutes per treatment to perform and can deliver a dramatic improvement in the appearance of scars, to a point where they are barely visible. Patients who undergo the procedure usually can resume their normal activities immediately following the session, making this a simple procedure that fits today’s busy lifestyles .

Fractional lasers can be custom-calibrated to allow laser energy to pass through the epidermis and target the layers beneath while leaving the surrounding skin intact. This stimulates increased collagen production. If you are seeking a way to minimize the appearance of a scar including those from Acne, Surgery, Injury, Stretchmarks.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Good candidates for this treatment are in good overall health with realistic expectations regarding treatment results. They also have skin conditions that the laser can effectively treat, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and scars. If the entire face is covered with wrinkles and deep folds, a more aggressive approach may be necessary. However, wrinkles and fine lines that occur in small regions of the face can usually be effectively treated using this laser.

How Does the treatment with fractional / pro-fractional laser work?

Pro- Fractional lasers use a tiny laser beam to treat thousands of pinpoint areas of your skin. Because only a fraction of your skin is directly treated with the laser, the surrounding untreated tissue promotes rapid healing. The skin’s wound healing response creates new collagen, which adds firmness and resilience to the skin. The treatment involves only minimal downtime.

In the past, it would have been impossible for patients with darker skin types to receive laser acne scar removal treatments. The laser was not designed to treat patients with dark skin, and if treated they would result in massive burns or scars. Darker skin types are defined as having a skin type of 4 or above. Due to technological advances, new lasers have been created to treat patients of all skin types. Laser acne scar removal is not limited to patients with certain skin types and can be effective on all skin types. Patients with darker skin types can now experience fractional laser acne scar removal treatments to effectively remove their unwanted acne scars.

It’s best to consult with a surgically trained aesthetic expert in the removal of scars and let the expert develop a treatment plan just for you of 2-3 treatments depending on the severity of the scar.

What should I expect at the visit/consult:

During your initial consultation, your doctor will discuss pre-op preparations, such as stopping retinoids and acid treatments three days prior, and discussing other medications that may impact the treatment.

When you arrive for your fractional laser treatment, typically in the office we'll clean the area being treated and apply a topical anesthetic cream, give you eye guards and take other measures to ensure your comfort depending on your treatment areas and depth of treatment.

During the procedure, a customized formula of vitamins, medications, and other elements is applied to the treatment area where it is quickly absorbed through the pinpoint channels and delivered into the deeper layers of skin. The entire laser treatment typically lasts 30 to 60 minutes.

What Can I expect after treatment:

After treatment, cold compresses are applied to cool the skin. Treated areas may have temporary pinpoint bleeding or minor swelling.

The healing process generally takes two to seven days. Immediately following the procedure, treated areas will have the sensation of a bad sunburn. By the next morning, you'll see old skin cells begin to shed and may experience minor itching.

Within 48 hours of the procedure, redness will begin to fade, and by day three any redness can be easily covered by makeup.

Recovery from pro fractional scar treatment(s) requires nothing more than a protective ointment such as Aquaphor or Vaseline, which keeps air away from your new skin cells.

Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds until fully healed. A broad-spectrum sunblock with zinc oxide and/ or titanium dioxide as the primary ingredients should be used daily.

  When will I see results:

After the skin heals, improvement continues for up to six months as the collagen structures rebuild and grow. Within weeks, the skin feels smoother, and the scar will begin to disappear. Overall results depend on your skin’s condition, the number of treatments, and the area of the body that is treated.

How many treatments will I need:

The ProFractional™ laser can be adjusted to fit your individual needs. You can elect to have fewer deep treatments with a longer recovery period or a longer series of lighter treatments with less downtime. Patients see optimal results with one to four treatments spaced three to six weeks apart, depending on their needs and response to treatments.

If you have been waiting for scar removal solutions that offer dramatic results with less downtime, Pro Fractional Las laser may be what you’ve been looking for. Schedule a consultation today !
